Modi-Carney Wipe Out Trudeau's Mega Mess | Vantage on Firstpost

India and Canada are attempting a major diplomatic and economic reset. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have reaffirmed their commitment to fast-tracking negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with the goal of doubling bilateral trade to C$70 billion by 2030.
The renewed push follows years of strained India-Canada relations after former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations linking Indian government to the 2023 killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia. India rejected the allegations and repeatedly demanded evidence, while the dispute escalated into diplomatic expulsions and a breakdown in trust.
Now, under Mark Carney, both countries are rebuilding ties. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand has described the relationship as beginning to flourish, while International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu is leading a major Team Canada trade mission to India. Modi is expected to visit Canada in December 2026.
