Making Chilli Oil is so easy! 🙌
¾ cup chilli flakes
1 tbsp chilli powder
5g Dried crushed chillies (optional)
¼ C sugar
1 tsp salt
1.5 tbsp vinegar (black vinegar preferred)
½ C soy sauce
AROMATICS:
4 Cups of oil (canola/vegetable)
2 shallots (100g)
1 large bulb of garlic (70g)
Ginger (50g )
1 & a half cinnamon sticks
2 star anise
-In a large heat proof bowl combine spice mix ingredients, stir together and set aside
-Finely dice shallots, garlic & ginger
-Add to a small pot and cover with 4 cups of oil. Do not use low smoke point oils like olive oil etc lol
-Bring it to a boil, then turn down to a low simmer & add cinnamon sticks star anise.
-Simmer for about 30 mins untill the aromatics turn a nice darkish golden brown colour - stirring occasionally.
-Pour that hot oil over your chilli mix that we made earlier, leave it in the fridge overnight and then it’s ready
